OFC is a church that honors God’s Word. We believe that God is working to perfect His good purpose in each and everyone of us. God’s Word declares in 1 John 5:4, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our Faith.”
Our leadership team recognizes the authority of God, and realizes that we are shepherds who serve under the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Our passion and goal is to equip the believers for the work of the ministry until we all attain maturity in the fullness of Christ.
Pastor Seaula Tupai, Senior Pastor
The youngest of eight children born to Palealii and Potoae Tupa’i, was born and raised in American Samoa, a U.S Territory in the South Pacific. He chose Jesus Christ as Lord of his life at the age of 14, and at the age of 15 started training for the ministry at the South Pacific Bible College in Suva Fiji. Four years later, he began his ministry by pioneering the founding of several new churches in American Samoa.
During his itinerary work as a pioneering pastor in American Samoa, he met Tina Fuiava whom he later married and began pursuing God’s plan for their lives together.
As he faithfully obeyed God through more formal education with the earning of a Bachelor of Arts in Bible Literature and Master of Arts in Christian Education and many years of experience and ministry building preparation through key roles of associate pastors for ministries among the Pacific Islands and the west coast in the United States, God’s overall plan for his life began unfolding.
After pastoring Monterey Samoan Assembly of God Church in Monterey California for 14 years, Pastor Seaula took an unexpected turn from his pastoral leadership by taking a sabbatical leave from the ministry to support his children in their pursuit of their graduate degrees.
Then in the fall of 2005 he and his family moved from Pullman to Seattle, Washington in pursuit of God’s direction.
It was there that Pastor Seaula Tupa’i accepted a position as an Associate Pastor under Senior Pastors Casey and Wendy Treat to lead the Christian Faith Center Samoan Fellowship within Christian Faith Center, one of the largest churches in the Northwest.
It was at the beginning of 2007 at Christian Faith Center that they felt the call to start a church in Hilo, Hawaii.
During the last Sunday service of May 2007, Pastor Casey Treat and Pastor Gordon Calmyer prayed for the beginning of a new church in Hilo, Hawaii, which is now called Overcoming Faith Center.
Tina Tupai, Co-Pastor
Tina was born in Aunu’u Island, Pago Pago, American Samoa, an island in the South Pacific. Her parents are Liugalua Fuiava [Father] and Taupale Alo-Fuiava [Mother]. Her Grandfather is Situe Fuiava and Grandmother is Ilasa Taeotui-Fuiava from her Father’s side. On the other end from her mother’s side, her Grandfather is Vaga Alo and her Grandmother is To’alua Aupa’au-Alo.
Tina came from a family of ten children, and is number four from the oldest. She is also the second daughter of Liugalua and Taupale. Tina loves life and is an outgoing person. One of her goals is to live life to the fullest and to be what God has called her to be.
Tina pastors side by side with her husband. She is the co-founder of their ministry, and also the co-pastor of the OFC Team that believes only in going upward and onward to change their world. Tina is a mother of four dedicated children, who make pastoring Overcoming Faith Center possible. Each of them is committed to the vision that God has called their parents.
Where Can I Serve?
Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of OFC is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Overcoming Faith members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as washing the church vehicles, to preparing the church bulletins.
OFC is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the islands of Hawaii. We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community.
Music & Drama
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music and drama ministry. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. Still others get involved in drama. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of OFC, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. Worship is not solely about singing songs and lifting our hands, but more about a relationship in how we respond to God and who He is to us. One of the ways in ministering to God can be through the singing, clapping and connecting people to the Father. We invite you to participate in worship as a service to the LORD everyday but also in our corporate time with the LORD. For more information to minister through song, see Music Director, Junior Tupa’i.
The usher team at OFC fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.
Youth Group Ministry
Each Wednesday evening, youth get to participate in their own class. Bible lessons are taught to challenge them to practice these truths in their everyday lives. The youth ministry also plans camps exclusive to their generation to set their hearts on fire for the LORD and to infect others with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now is the time to get involved and make a difference for your generation.
Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of OFC. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. We also maintain an active Facebook for additional church communication.
Marriages can be difficult to maintain. Misunderstanding, confusion, resentment, and anger can flare up in any marriage. Several couples at OFC serve other families as marriage counselors. Their role in listening, understanding, helping, and encouraging struggling couples has, by God’s grace, saved marriages, and repaired relationships. Couples have found fresh hope and new joy in a warm and fulfilling relationship with their spouse.
Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. OFC is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each Sunday, during the morning service, a team of volunteers is praying for the ministry of the Word. Throughout the week, volunteers to our Prayer Warriors team, pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Each Tuesday, the church comes together for a special time of prayer and Bible study.
In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, OFC holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons.
Each summer, OFC hosts a youth camp. The week-long event involves games, a lot of preaching, great food, good worship, and the intentional influence of camp counselors. The camp counselors are selected, screened, and trained for this important camp ministry. They find that their ministry is personally rewarding, and both campers and counselors grow in the process.
Men’s Ministry Group
Accountability among men is an act of integrity. Accountability is designed to protect, encourage, and develop men of all ages. Accountability groups of three are formed among the men of OFC Accountability groups meet together as their schedules allow and keep in touch in person or by phone.
